How to prepare IELTS-TOEFL exam? 

Details about IELTS exam: IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a test which is used to check proficiency in English language for two purposes. They may be Academic (to study abroad) or general purposes (migration to other nation). It deals with testing the language in four aspects: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. The basic structure is: it has a total band score of nine ranging from 1 to 9.  The marks given in each section are converted into band which might be in decimal too. The total duration of test is 2 hours and 45 minutes. Reading, Listening and Writing takes place on the same day while the speaking section is covered either 7 days before or after the actual test date.

Speaking: Takes place for about 15 minutes. It occurs in three parts.

  • 1st part: You need to answer some of the questions asked about yourself, family and various other relevant topics.
  • 2nd part: You will be given a topic. After it you will be given 1 minute to prepare for it and then you need to speak continuously on that topic for about 2 minutes.
  • 3rd part: In the 3rd part you will be asked questions regarding the topic you addressed in your 2nd session.

Listening: Takes place for 30 minutes. In this one needs to be attentive as it covers 4 sections with 10 questions in each question. What a person will do is: he/she will be hearing each section passage once and then he/she will be given time to answer 10 questions related to it which carries 1 marking each. Like this you need to do all the 4 sections containing passages.

Reading: Takes place for 60 minutes. This is somewhat familiar to listening part. In this you will having 40 questions carrying 1 mark each as said above. The only difference is here you will get three sections or passages you have to read and answer the questions rather than listening to them.

Writing: It also takes place for 60 minutes. It has two parts:

  • 1st part: A diagram/picture is given to you. You need to give a description about the same in 20 minutes of time period.
  • 2nd part: In this part you will be given any topic or issue. What you need to do is write about that in 40 minutes. That is you need to describe your own viewpoint.

Details about TOEFL exam: The Test of English as a foreign language is also used to check proficiency in English language. This is a total internet based test. It is authorized in 180 + countries and mainly in US. Similar to IELSTS in too consists of four sections but the structure is not same. This test takes about 3.5 hours. Structure of the test is:

Reading: It takes place for 50 to 70 minutes. It do consists of 3 or 4 sections or reading passages. You need to read these sections and then answer the questions accordingly. They might be 30 or 40 depending on number of passages.

Listening: It takes place for 40-60 minutes. In this you will have to listen whatever conversation or audio is provided and then answer 28-39 questions based on it.

Speaking: After 10 minutes break you will be called for speaking section. In this you need to talk about what you have read or listened in the above parts. Also you are required to discuss any familiar topic related to these. It takes place for about 17 minutes.

Writing: This is the last section which comprises of two tasks for total 50 minutes. In one you need to listen to a recording or read the passage and then answer whatever you are asked for. And in second one you will be asked to share your own opinion about some topic you are given.

Improve your reading or listening skills: As already discussed above these tests are totally based on one's abilities to read, listen and write etc. If you are already an expert in these areas you will not face any difficulty in giving the tests. But the person who is not a pro achiever in English language must give accurate time by practicing exercises on daily basis. One can watch Hollywood movies with English subtitles at the initial and then further move to watch it without subtitles to improve their listening skills. Make a study plan: The secret to successfully completing proficiency tests is preparation. It is essential to study for the test in advance. Students must create a study plan that includes as much of the material as possible in order to pass the test because the exams evaluate one's English proficiency. Develop your skill set in that particular vertical by focusing on one component at a time. Additionally, students can talk with other persons who can speak English well to expand their vocabulary and conversational skills.

Answer:- It depends. Some business schools might specify minimum score requirements. Others might not have minimum scores but they will let you know what scores they consider competitive.

Answer:- For either test, you can elect to send your scores to schools you select before you begin the test. For the IELTS, you can send your results to up to five institutions free of charge if you list them on your online registration. For the TOEFL, you can send your results free of charge to up to four institutions. Of course, you can send your results to more schools, but you'll most likely have to pay extra to do so.
