Privilege and stigma are two powerful man made conceptions in the society. Stigma is an immoral objectification of people and this involves treating people as if they don’t have any other considerable and respectable identity and honorable trait in the society to get recognized in par with other positive people of the society. Devaluation and objectification can be seen in poor people, women as well in the disabled people more commonly. At the same time Privileges are those features which some advantageous people in the society do enjoy due to their races, ages, sexual identities, education, religions, social classes etc.
White privilege is very commonly seen privilege in the United States of America. From generations, since the slave times, whites do have privilege in the society and it was experienced in several domains including the political domain. Since the allocation of the voting rights to the blacks, Whites enjoyed privileges for contesting to congress and even to get the posts of the president ship. All the white presidents enjoyed the white privilege at that time. The racial discrimination is abandoned in 1965 and since then all presidents have enjoyed the privileges of white privilege. All presidents before that time have enjoyed the white privilege example Truman, Roosevelt, Hoover etc.
Stigamation can be seen in the black in modeling career. Naomi Sims is a famous black model in United States and she experienced stigma due to her race in the early times of her career. She lost several opportunities and she is deprived of chances to show her talent. However still with sheer hard work and talent later she became successful in her profession. If such stigmation is not there, she would have become even more popular.
Positive treatment provides more opportunities, wealth, well being and mental health whereas Negative treatment provides ill health, loss of opportunities, well being and success for people in life(Rosenblum and Travis,2016)..
In the first instance, the said popular white presidents were elected to the congress, when there are no voting rights there for blacks in the country, it is an obvious advantage for them as they are white. This privilege is given to them as per the prevailing culture and legislation of that time. In the second case, the social culture deprived the model to get the privilege and is stigmatized in the early times. Obviously the stigma makes only the toughest to get the chances to survive and blossom. Stigma is a testing time for one’s confidence and only the toughest of the toughest can survive.
