Moreover, advocacy service providers understand and speak for the patients who are unable to communicate by themselves.  Confidentiality in healthcare refers to the legal right of a physician (caregiver) to maintain secrecy of patient’s information and can only disclose with the consent of respective patient. There are certain situations where confidential information related to patient need to pass on by a physician as a whistle blower, viz., risk or harm to the patient, or their associated people, or suspicion of abuse or misconduct, or for treatment of another patient. However, the patient should be informed prior to this activity (Rolls et al., 2016). A physician or caregiver should seek advice on confidentiality from supervisor whenever, there is an urgent requirement to breach (written or verbal) confidentiality of a patient.
