Critique of Research Study Assignment Help

Discussion Question

The selection of a research design is guided by the study's purpose and research questions and hypotheses, and the design then links the research questions and hypotheses to the data that will be collected. You should keep in mind, however, that the research process is interactive, not necessarily proceeding in a linear fashion from one component to the next. Rather, the writing of research questions could, for example, necessitate adjustments to the study's purpose statement. Nevertheless, when presented together, the various components of a research study should align. As you learned last week, alignment means that a research study possesses clear and logical connections among all of its various components.

In addition to considering alignment, when researchers select a research design, they must also consider the ethical implications of their choice, including, for example, what their design selection means for participant recruitment, procedures, and privacy.

For this Discussion, you will evaluate quantitative research questions and hypotheses in the attached journal article and consider the alignment of theory, problem, purpose, research questions and hypotheses, and design. You will also identify the type of quantitative research design the authors used and explain how it was implemented.

Post a critique of the research study in which you:

(1) Evaluate the research questions and hypotheses using the Research Questions and Hypotheses Checklist as a guide

(2) Identify the type of quantitative research design used and explain how the researchers implemented the design

(3) Analyze alignment among the theory, problem, purpose, research questions and hypotheses, and design

Introduction

The report aims to analyze the quantitative research study, research questions, and hypothesis. It considers theory alignment, purpose, problem research questions, hypothesis, and design. The kind of quantitative research design implementation and reason to implement it are explained.

Main body

Research questions and hypothesis

The question of the research is to identify the higher performing working system influence and its intervening mechanism that achieves innovative performance by a company through the mediating role of employee innovative work behaviors. This question is not well explored by the researchers as the research asserts that very limited research is available on this topic on this a great limiting factor to apply generalization across the firm. Though the research outlines a study of one research that has examined the mediating role of commitment of employee in the link between human resource management and knowledge sharing. The question is aligned towards the research purpose, and the question reflects the best question to address the identified issue. The research question is aligned with the design of the study because the cross-sectional study offers various outcomes that this research aims for ("Quantitative research," 2019). The research question is subjective in nature and therefore, the tools used to collect data such as interview and questionnaire are feasible for exploring the research question.

Hypothesis questions

Hypothesis one: higher performance working system is positively associated with innovation. To support this hypothesis, researchers mention those factors responsible for innovative work-related behavior such as structure and climate, the role of HWPS to gain the commitment of employees, to share organizational knowledge, HRM practices and therefore, the researchers are able to connect a link between high performing working system and innovative working behavior of employees. The research hypothesis is appropriate for exploring answers to research purpose. It also aligned towards the design of the study. The research hypothesis is appropriate to the methods of data collection because it involves human participants and the tools used by the research is interview and surveys that are feasible for exploring perceptions of the participants. The research design used in the research is also feasible as it allows for generating various outcomes.

Hypothesis two: use of the high-performance working system enhances innovative work behavior of employees. The hypothesis is aligned with the purpose of research.

Hypothesis three: employees innovative work behavior is positively associated with firm innovation. This hypothesis formation is not well supported by research and evidence. The study finds that innovative work behavior can be a partial mediator between knowledge sharing and capability of innovation (Buranakul, Limnararat, Pithuncharurnlap, & Sangmaneel, 2016). Therefore, more evidence to support the hypothesis should have been offered by the researchers. But this hypothesis as well aligned towards research aims.
Hypothesis four: innovative work behavior of employee mediates the relationship between high-performance working system use and firm innovation. This hypothesis also lacks evidence from other research work.

Type of research design and its implementation

The research design used in the research is a cross-sectional design. The cross-sectional study is an observational study that collects data for analysis from a population. The cross-sectional study measures exposure and outcomes of interest simultaneously. Cross-sectional studies generally include very large samples to represent the whole population. The cross-sectional design may assist to conduct to design a cohort study (Setia, 2016).

The implementation of this research design uses hierarchical regression analysis to test the hypothesis. Exploratory interviews were conducted and outcomes of these interviews were measured. After that, a large number of practices were undertaken. Face validity and content validity were used to enhance the validity of survey findings, and a Dilman tailored design method was used. A large sample consisting of 548 people was created. One way analysis of variance was used. Harman one factor test was used to avoid method bias. The method is appropriate to conduct the questionnaire that is adopted by the research. As the research aims to obtain various outcomes, the cross-sectional design is found useful in this regard (Sedgwick, 2016).

The research design uses descriptive questions and these questions can to a certain extent provide the response to major variables. The questions asked in the research design assess variables. But there is no null and alternative kind of hypothesis are offered by the research. The research questions or hypothesis look complimenting to each other.

Analysis

The research has successfully established the mediating role of employee innovation working behavior and the relationship between HWPS and innovative performance of a firm. It has contributed to the existing literature on human resource management. But the drawbacks such as single industry focus such as only accounting firms, small sample, and cross-sectional design require analyzing whether the chosen research design is appropriate. For social research, it is imperative to use a qualitative research design. The research design used by the researchers in this study is a quantitative design that does not permit the researchers to explore the perceptions and attitudes of people about firm innovativeness and high performing working system influence as well as mediating role of innovative working behavior of employees to promote innovation. The quantitative research design uses descriptive research design in this research but the research is not feasible for analyzing the human participants and their perceptions. It is always better, therefore, to use the qualitative research method and designs to conduct such research. As the research aims to know the perceptions of participants regarding the influence of high performing work team and innovative abilities of a firm as well as mediating role of employees innovative work behavior, a qualitative research method is more appropriate. The reason to use qualitative research is its support to quantitative research as the qualitative research generates leads as well as ideas that may assist researchers to formulate a testable hypothesis. The hypotheses can be tested by quantitative research methods ("Qualitative research design, 2019). Therefore, the research method used in the study cannot explore in detail about participants views. The drawbacks of quantitative research such as the inability to conduct subjective analysis and complex perceptions and attitudes of people make this research design little appropriate and therefore, it is suggested that mixed research methods should be appropriate. The mixed methods can address the drawbacks of both quantitative and qualitative research methods (Driscoll, Appiah-Yeboah, Salib, & Rupert, 2007). Therefore, the analysis reveals that the limitation of the research is not adopting cohort studies and qualitative research method along with a quantitative research method.
