Ethics and compliance with ethical behaviour makes up one of the most important criteria for human resource managers in making sure that the division functionality is as per the ideal and expected norms and behaviour in general. However still there is chance to face difficult dilemmas that need to be evaluated based on case to case basis while taking up corrective actions. In this connection, the following report is presented to evaluate the ethical dilemmas (Dunn,2018) contained into two different scenarios and appropriate course of actions are proposed based on theories of ethics. Case: 1

Summary of the case:

The current case is the issue of patient autonomy. The current case is presented in the position of general practitioner. The case is about a mother performing cao-gio on the boy for betterment of his health. The technique involves heating a coin and burning on the skin to heal out the bad blood and to purify the body with the betterment of the good blood. However on noticing the general conditions, it is observed that the boy is suffering with the pain from the bruises marks made on his back. The dilemma involved in the current case is about enquiry regarding whether to complain the child protective services about the mother or not.

Ethical issues identified in the case:

The current issue is that the patient rights and his autonomy of choosing the right treatment as per his needs is not honoured. Being a minor and no maturity available to select the care he wants as well as his age factors created the current situation. His mother too seems to be ignorant and has no any malicious intentions in harming the boy. However her cultural forces and other factors of beliefs in alternative medicine enabled her to take up this type of treatment on the child. Now the dilemma is whether to call for the child protective agencies and report on his mother or not.

Facts:
• The boy got suffering due to Cao-gio technique.
• Mother is responsible for the harm - however she is ignorant of the consequences.
• Also it is to be noted that she brought the boy to the office for treatment.

Possible approaches and consequences
• As per utilitarian approach (Gawronski and Beer, 2017) there is need to assess an action as per the consequences and the outcomes as well. The net benefits and the costs for all the stakeholders to be evaluated on individual basis before taking up the ethical decision. In the current case, if the children protection agencies are informed of the case and if proper action is initiated against the mother, it may have some good effect like the boy may be protected if the mother is having intentions to harm the boy. But it is not the case, she just employed that technique out of ignorance. Also if she is provided with punishment, there are chances that the boy will suffer if there is no alternative person to take care of him. So a better counselling can be of use to set right the situation. Also a simple warning of the possible consequences of repetition of the case may give better results both for the parent and the boy too.

• Rights approach insists to stick to the morals and treating others as how we treat others. In the current scenario, the moral obligations of protecting the boy can be assured without actually complaining the case to the child protecting agencies. By enlighting the mother, the boy rights can be protected and assured.

• Justice approach speaks of the benefits and harm and their equitable distribution in the stakeholders. The benefit in the current decision is meeting the objectives and the costs involved are taking the risk of relying on the mother acceptance of the counselling. Well it is worth taking that risk and additional measures to ensure the safety of the boy can be assured based on actual facts. Like alerting community volunteers to observe etc. Hence not complaining is favoured based on this approach as well (House et al.,2015).

• The common good approach: The approach to let the society also benefit apart from the target family or the individual. In the current case, there is nothing to bother apart from the family or the individual perspective. However alerting the community volunteer can enable an alert towards the technique and possible awareness improvement in that community about the irrationality of the technique and possible harm by succumbing to that at the same time the volunteer can make sure that the mother do not succumb to this technique again.

• Virtue ethics are the principles to be followed as per the duty orientation and the possible actions to be taken based on the ethical reasoning. In the current case, the medical professional need to counsel the mother of the right practice and should also alert the community volunteers about the technique and also should advise her to take notice of the mother and child.

Right action:
The medical professional need to assure that the mother is provided of the guidance of the right care and irrationality in the cao-gio technique. She should explain the harm the technique can create to the child as well should inform possible legal consequences if she repeat the same. Further general practitioner should inform the community volunteers to take notice of the child and mother and should advise to enlight the community of the technique and possible harm that it can make of to the society. The final action suggested is good and advisable in accordance with the consequentialist approach, it is right as per the justice as well as the righteous approach too. In any case the final decisions proposed in the case are advisable for betterment of the patient condition will help the mother to stick to proper care practices in future. Also involvement and alerting the community workers will work for common good of the society too.

Case - 2
Summary of the case:

A mother and a son visit the emergency room to get treatment for the asthma attack to her son. They are not qualified for the medical insurance as they earn more than the salary limits. They have no coverage as they cannot afford. The patient is given treatment and sent. Now after two weeks later, they return back to the hospital for treatment. What is to be done? Is the ethical dilemma in the current case.
Ethical issues:
Sending without treatment is morally and ethically not correct. AT the same time hospital taking the price of another treatment is also not possible as per the regulations. A professional need to obligate the regulations
Facts:
• The salary level of the parents is higher than the limits for federal aid.
• Still it is fact that they cannot afford for the federal insurance.
• The patient is suffering with the serious asthma and need medical assistance.

Possible approaches and consequences
• As per utilitarian approach (Mandal et al, 2016), consequences do matter, if the patient is given treatment, he can be good but the organization may not tolerate similar issues in future and it may become a financial crisis. Also it is against the regulations of the organization to bear the expenses of all such cases. If the patient is not given treatment, he will suffer with ill health and it is not judged as per the moralities.

• Rights approach insists on moralities and do insist to take up an action that can be morally right both for the hospital as well as for the medical professionals involved in the case too.

• Justice approach will let the stakeholders be availed of the cost as well as benefits in letting the treatment be received. All stakeholders should be availed of judicial benefits and care and should be judged of the interests. Both the organization and the patients to be taken care of this.

• Common good ethics ensures the society also get benefit not just the individual or the family in focus. Hence there is need to focus on the common good ethics, where in the patient and the family to be protected by some means and also should pave some way to the society to get benefit in similar scenarios.

• Virtue ethics (Sison et al., 2017) do obligate to follow an ethically approved path way and should not compromise on the character. All the possible and correct strategies and actions to be taken up by the medical professional in enabling the right service be met to the patient as well following the righteous pathway in working out the same.

Action:
The right solution in the current case as a practitioner it is ethically right to enable treatment to the patient, but a part of the cost can be shared by the parents and a part of it either by the hospital or by any charitable organization. An open call for assistance on social media can be of use in this case. A typical arrangement for assistance of the voluntary organizations in future for such cases can be use. It can be justified by ethical principles to enable a procedure to take up similar actions in future to protect the interests of the patients in future as well as the organization to provide the necessary assistance at the same time not compromising with the interests of the organization. Such a decision will be righteous in accordance with justice approach where there is need to satisfy all the stakeholders, also it is as per common good ethical approach too, as the society is also getting some benefit in similar cases too in future. Ofcourse the consequences are directly good for the family as well for the organization too, as its add to its value and reputation.

Conclusion:
The actions proposed in both these cases are based on consideration to integrative approach to all ethical issues and there is also focus on medical ethics and application of the same in decision making. Finally, the decisions proposed are suggestive and more detailed information on the prevailing conditions can refine the decisions more effectively to be ethically compliant. Though the cases proposed are directly related to the medical profession, the insights that can be drawn from these perspectives can be of use for any practicing Human resources professional as the insights can be of use to train and to take up the right decision in future in similar scenarios.
