The main theme of the story "The Rememberer" by Aimee Bender is about human thinking. In this story, we can observe that Annie thinks too much about anything and by thinking more about one matter she leaves the emotion that should be there actually. As technology is increasing and as we are developing day by day all the human emotions are vanishing and everyone is thinking too much about their selves.
Everyone will have a dream in their life which they want to achieve but no one wants to think about whether they are dreaming about a thing which they can afford or not. Because dreaming of the things which we cannot get forever is a ridiculous one as everyone knows their limits. Now the present scenario is all our brains are becoming bigger as the technology is advancing and no one wants to give space for emotions or relations.
For example, if we take previous days so many uses to live in joint families where there will be a lot of emotions and relations but nowadays we are seeing its traces and everyone are preferring to live in a nuclear way where the affections are getting reduced. In previous days everyone is used to write letters to communicate with each other one can experience the real feel when they read the letters written by their loved ones but now everything has become online simply we will keep a message or a mail where that memory and feel will go away.
In this story, we can clearly observe that when Ben was with Annie she used to say him or made him fear by saying every time that "We are not thinking we are not thinking" she used to say like this because she wants something more than which is having now. There is a famous quote that "Dream will not become reality through magic it takes sweat, determination and hard work".
Which means that dreaming is not a wrong thing but some determination and hard work have to be kept by us to achieve that dream but what people are doing is that will be just thinking about their dream too much but don't want to keep any efforts to achieve that dream.
Another quote I want to add explain this is "there is no space for anything but dreaming." Everyone has to follow their heart to set a dream and have to act accordingly to it. In this story, we can see that when Ben was with Annie she always use to tell him that they are thinking anything but in his reverse evolution when he turned in to an ape she doesn't to lose him want to take care of ape Ben. But later when he is converted into a sea turtle and then to the salamander, she thought that there is nothing to do except leaving him to go and she can't do anything except remember him and waiting for the day when he again converts into the man. From this story, the fact that everyone should take is we should be in present and enjoy the things what are existing with us and we should not bother about nonexisting things.
When Annie is with Ben she always uses to think about nonexisting things and lost her enjoyment in life once she loses the person completely she can't do anything except to remember him and waiting for him. The great gift to human by God is thinking capacity and doing the things voluntary where we can fetch our happiness, unlike animals that cannot think and can't act voluntarily. This is the reason for Ben to get converted into primitive form. The moral that we have to know from this story we have to be satisfied with what I have and should leave about the things which we don't have.
