Answer - Reflection Paper
In this reflection report, the learning gained by course material, learning needed to acquire and use of these learning are elaborated. Key concepts learned by the course are illustrated. Use of these concepts to be a better leader is also described.
The three key concepts that I have learned from the course are as illustrated. One key concept that I have learned is effective coaching and mentoring. Coaching is defined as collaboration between coachees and coach that is focused to work in a systematic way to achieve the pre-specified goal for enhancing professional performance, for learning and for personal growth. Therefore, coaching is a form of non-directive development that improves work performance and skills of people. Coaching promotes feedbacks and creates awareness. Coaches are able to offer skilled interventions to the coachees (Rochford, & Morgan, 2017). I learned that coaching can be used for induction in a new role, personal development as well as leadership development, career counselling, succession planning. I further knew that coaching is of various types that can be used in different contexts. Peer coaching provides a similar level of experience to the coachees. Internal coaching is used in large organizations. Leaders being a coach improve competencies of followers or managers. External coaching is used to provide training to senior employees of the organization (Rochford, & Morgan, 2017).
I also identified that these requirements must be fulfilled for coaching practice. For this, coaching relationship elements such as direct communication, trust, support, mutual commitment, collaboration are required. I developed insights that coaching should be goal oriented as well as a person focused. Feedbacks are equally important in coaching. Paying attention to contextual factors, environmental factors and organizational governance are also required (Rochford, & Morgan, 2017). Coaching techniques and skills are essential for coaches.
Coaching benefits realized can assist me to develop my leadership and organizing skills. I can pay attention to the contextual and environmental factors to develop good strategies.

Mentoring is a development activity generating a positive influence on the professional development of a person. I have learned that mentoring role is to assist a mentee to attain career goals, to build network and relationship, to reduce the work-related problems, and to create a work-life balance (Carmel, & Paul, 2015). Mentoring assists in making the time commitment and it is responsive to issues pertaining to a professional career such as issues of race, gender, class, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. Next key concept I have come across is leadership and cultural intelligence. Awareness of cultural intelligence requires different leadership styles practices. Awareness of different cultures is essential to address cross-cultural challenges. As the companies increasingly becoming multinational companies, leaders often face cross-cultural issues in a team. Cultural awareness such as help perceptions regarding work norms, cultural practices, religious beliefs, eating, and dressing patterns assist leaders to adopt local cultural preferences at the workplace. This concept assists me to develop my own leadership skills according to cultural practices impact over work environment. Cultural awareness can assist me to enhance my leadership effectiveness as I can use cultural cues to enhance coordination in a team and can improve productivity. Cultural awareness can familiarise me to practice different leadership style such as autocratic leadership style, democratic leadership style, Laissez-Faire style, etc (Eken, Özturgut, & Craven, 2014).
Finally, I familiarised with the concept of leadership and emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is found very important to practice effective leadership because as Goleman (1998) states emotional intelligence can enhance a leader ability to improve self-awareness, relationship management, social awareness, and self-management. Self-awareness can assist me to practice self-restraint practices that can certainly improve leadership effectiveness.
Understanding these key concepts can certainly enhance my leadership abilities and organizing abilities and they can assist me to develop those personality attributes that are necessary for career goals achievements.
