Child Development Analysis

The study is based on the analysis of the movie in consideration, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. The movie initially released on 10th of July, 2005. However, the release was initially targeted to USA and later it was released worldwide. The movie follows a fantasy-musical genre. The film is a direct adaptation of the novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' written by Ronald Dahl. The 2005 movie have been directed by Tim Burton. The movie had been PG rated, thus parental guidance is suggested for children while watching the movie. The movie though being targeted to the young audience it does feature some bits of gore and sculptural nudity, but no violence what so ever thus resulting into a PG rating.

The movie being primarily targeted towards the younger audience; it helps the age group to develop a physiological identity. ‘Autonomy versus shame and doubt' is basically considered as a psychosocial development period in children (Hiller et al, 2016). The period is basically considered within the first 1.5 to 3 years of a child. During this stage, children are mostly open to develop self-control and awareness thus targeting the fantasy movie towards these children helps them eliminating the ‘wrong' and adapting the ‘good' or the desirable.

The movie speaks to its range of audience in numerous ways. Putting all in a chronological order it can be addressed as follows:

- Infancy - is the age group of children from 1-3 years (Kendall et al., 2016). The children are more focused into learning everything and has no clear understanding of what may be right and what may be wrong.

- Early childhood - is the age group where the child has the basic understand of right to wrong yet lacks the ability to openly understand and adapt to the physiological changes (Kendall et al., 2016).

- Middle childhood - is the age group when most of the physiological changes occurs and a child is prone to. Thus, the movie may play a great part into shaping the child's phycology (Kendall et al., 2016).

- Adolescence - is the step a child takes into his/her adulthood. Also termed as the teen-age where the individual is prone to suffer physiological crisis and thus the movie may play an important part into helping revaluating and gaining an identity (Kendall et al., 2016).

- Early adulthood - is when an individual is able to gain basic maturity into gaining physiological stability thus the film would help identifying true meaning being the film.

- Middle adulthood - is the age structure which lets an individual stay true to the believes and work on the physiological identity they have already established thus allowing to understand hidden meaning to the film.

- Old age - is the age structure where an individual has gained enough maturity to be able to question the underlining plots to the film and be able to explore and pass on the ideas to the new generations (Kendall et al., 2016).

The movie in consideration, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' has layers of meaning which may be overlooked on the very first view. However, the film has its port revolving around two individuals, ‘Charlie' and ‘Willy Wonka', who are a young saint like boy and a grown-up adult. Thus the film is able to gain layers of depth between the two characters showing their individual back-stories and their depth of physiological significance.

The chosen movie for analysis, demonstrated numerous levels of physiological growth through its underlining plot of Willy Wonka's damaged psychology (James & Prout, 2015). The movie shows an individual, ‘Willy Wonka' who is a famous chocolatier. He has crude understanding of the world around him whilst his early age yet it seems as he is a troubled adult with less maturity and a goofy attitude. Thus the movie is able to show the hidden physiological growth in the character through the plot whereas ‘Charlie' though being a young child shows extreme signs of maturity and a non-selfish and saint-like characterism.

When the movie is thrown under a keen eye it could be observed that the movie carries more gravity and meaning than it originally seems to be. Through the movie itself it can be seen that, the plot involves 5 young children and their guardian. Apart from so the movie is primarily focused onto ‘Willy Wonka' played by Johnny Depp. If the character ‘Willy Wonka' is considered then, it can be observed that the character had faced a troubled childhood with strict parenting. Though the character showed immense maturity while his childhood the character was troubled with his strict and opposing father. Thus the character lost a hold to his physiological character and ran away to peruse his dreams to become a chocolatier. However due to the damaged phycology of the character, he had been troubled to return and face his father. But, the main character ‘Charlie' was able to provide ‘Willy' enough mental strength for him to be able to face his father and settle his childhood traumas. It can be seen that ‘Willy' tries to battle his traumas by wearing a top-hat for the whole movie, which signifies his gravity over others'. Thus showing a character's physiological transformation through the age and the maturity for an individual through the choices he made (Breeman, Jaekel, Baumann, Bartmann & Wolke, 2016).

The movie doesn't shy away from showing any diversity in any possible manner. The movie had a great amount of cast staying true to the source material. The movie showcases its characters of all race, class, customs, sexuality, gender, society, theology and physical-disabilities. One of such an example being the ‘Oompa Loompa' played by the Anglo-Indian actor, Deep Roy. The character does signify slavery however the director does not shy away from including it for increased diversities on all significance.

The movie though being a fantasy one it has some underlying message. The 5 children of the movie play the characteristics of Greed, Gluttony, Pride, Envy and Wrath (Lahey et al., 2015). However, ‘Charlie' here plays a selfless saint-like character who is there only to make-believe for the dangers one might face from a superior power, for adapting to the sins. Here, the superior power is referred to that of ‘Willy Wonka' who is conducting the chocolate factory tour. Thus, addressing a social structure in humans and the theological aspect of the audience.

The movie addresses the relation that an adult endorses to the child. The adult being the individual with superior maturity helps shaping the child's physiological identity. The movie does adapt to the idea and depicts the idea of relationship building between the individuals.
The movie focuses on the social structure of the real world by providing a nudge towards the real world problems which are created by greed into individuals for achieving or retaining something.

The movie would specifically help individuals address to their physiological understand and thus would help gain more awareness to the areas of improvement into their specific physiological identity (Norbury et al., 2016).

There are numerous kinds of childhood development however the movie would practically help children gain social and emotional development (Bishop et al., 2017). The emotional attachment and development are an essential part for any childhood development. Apart from it, gaining social awareness and developing a sense of maturity is similarly important. Thus the movie would practically let gaining more connection towards the relation between family and key members for social and emotional development. Focusing onto building a more intimate and a strengthened relation to improve physiological identity into an individual of any age group (Shenk et al., 2015).
